Pressure pipeline is a type of pipeline that is used to used in conveying crude oil, petroleum products and natural gas at very high pressure.

In order to keep the liquids and gases flowing in the pipeline, the pressure of the pipeline has be to increased and constantly kept in the range of 200 to 1500 psi depending on the viscosity of the petroleum product being transported. All high-pressure pipelines are made of up of carbon steel or steel and are large diameter pipelines (20 inches above).

In theory,Pressure pipe can only transport nonflammable, nontoxic, and noncorrosive gas, such as liquefied gas, steam, or flammable and explosive, toxic, corrosive liquid with a highest working temperature higher or equal to the standard boiling point.

There are two methods for pressure tests: hydrostatic and pneumatic.A hydrostatic test is performed by using water as the test medium, whereas a pneumatic test uses air, nitrogen, or any non-flammable and nontoxic gas.

Prior to performing a pressure test,An internal pipeline inspection is necessary,Once the pipeline being tested is temporarily removed from service,safely vent themethane in the pipeline and remove any debris from the pipeline. Next,seal both ends of the pipeline and fill it, under pressure, with water, inert gas, air or natural gas. Pressure will be maintained within the pipeline for approximately eight hours. After the test is completed, either remove the water, or vent the air or inert gas from the pipeline. Depending on test results, If repairs are needed, a second pressure test will be performed to confirm success of the repairs.
